Things I Make
A couple notes on process….
Usually I start with an idea or challenge to myself, a directive for the piece. I want to paint the dream I had last night, I want to paint a traditional still life with a limited palette, I want to paint without my glasses/contacts etc.
My work is varied in style because of this, though overtime certain patterns/techniques have emerged and I expect by creating more, additional rhythms will occur.
I’ll feel joy, anger, sadness, a gamut of emotions, when I paint. I like to listen to music and sing and dance while I make stuff and therefore it’s a very embarrassing and vulnerable process.
I don’t always understand why I’m still creating, beside the fact that it makes me feel good. I think it’s a mix of ego, stress release, self challenge and a way to stay curious.
I hope we as artists strive for connection and innovation instead of vanity and selfishness. These are my goals.
